Tsing Hua Journal of Chinese Literature

Introduction

Established in September 2007, the Tsing Hua Journal of Chinese Literature obtained its ISSN number from the National Central Library in 2010, officially becoming a professionally edited academic journal. At its inception, the journal was planned as an annual publication for its first three years, and was later expanded into a semiannual format with two issues per year. As submissions gradually stabilized, academic exchange increased, and reader feedback grew more enthusiastic, the journal was formally converted into a semiannual publication beginning with the Issue No. 5 (June 2011).

During the process of soliciting manuscripts, the Editorial Board of the journal received submissions from scholars affiliated with a wide range of institutions and regions, including mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, the United States, and Europe. In their discussions of specific topics, these scholars demonstrate distinct academic concerns. Such diversity not only reflects the multiple possibilities of research in Chinese literature, history, and philosophy, but also fully embodies the journal’s mission to serve as an academic bridge, cultivate scholarly talent, and provide a sustained platform for intellectual exchange.

Special issues of the journal have focused on forward-looking academic topics and have attracted widespread attention, thereby fulfilling the goal of “advancing research paradigms through thematic issues.” These include November 2009 special issue on Ming–Qing poetry and prose; Issue No. 3, “Lyric Aesthetics”; Issue No. 5, “Chinese Narratology”; Issue No. 6, “Sinology and Material Culture”; Issue No. 10, “Cross-Border Travel: Genre Transformation and Shifting Perspectives in Modern and Contemporary Literature”; Issue No. 20, “Medieval Chinese Literature and Sinology”; Issue No. 22, “Digital Humanities Research”; Issue No. 28, “Chinese Narratology”; and Issue No. 32, “Epistolary Literature and Culture.”

In the National Science and Technology Council’s “Taiwan Humanities and Social Sciences Journal Evaluation and Core Journal Listing” assessments in 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2023, the journal was recognized as a core journal (THCI) in the “Literature I” discipline. It also received the “Academic Impact Award” at the 2019 “Taiwan Academic Resource Ceremony” hosted by the National Central Library, and the “Academic Communication Award” in 2020. The journal continues to aspire to establish itself as another prestigious humanities academic journal for sinological research. In addition, the journal was invited to join several online databases, including Airiti Library, HyRead, and Yuan-Liou in 2012, United Digital Publications in 2016, and the YueDan Knowledgebase in 2017, further enhancing its academic visibility.

We sincerely invite scholars both in Taiwan and abroad to offer their valuable comments and guidance to the Tsing Hua Journal of Chinese Literature, and warmly welcome submissions in order to further promote academic exchange.
