戲曲選講：古典到當代 Selected Chinese Opera: Classics to Moderns

1. Course Overview
The course is composed of four parts. The first part is a brief survey on the history of Chinese opera (xiqu). Students are expected to be familiar with the development of its narrative form, especially its evolution from lyric storytelling to the role playing and the staged performance. The second part focuses on the symbolic acting style of xiqu. Students will have an idea of the training method of xiqu actors and its practice on the stage. The third part presents the influence of Western theatre on xiqu, as well as the intercultural exchanges perceived in contemporary xiqu productions. Political factors and cultural policy will also be considered in this part. As for the last part of the course, it is dedicated to the experiences and the transformation of xiqu in Taiwan.
本課程的第一部份是從戲曲發展開始，由敘述故事的說唱，到少數演員分包扮演，到代言體戲曲的完整呈現。第二部份介紹戲曲劇場特有的寫意表演，以及為了達到表演需求，對於演員身體的訓練。在古代，表演是如何跟文學結合的。第三部份進入現當代，歐美戲劇如何在戲曲劇場旁邊成長茁壯，與此同時，戲曲有何發展。20世紀下半，政治如何決定了戲曲的表演。第四部份，介紹當代台灣戲曲的新局。
2. Teaching and Learning Methodology
※ This course will be conducted in Chinese.
※ Class activities include lecture, discussion, in-class exercises, and take-home assignments.
※ Students will identify certain key concepts and explore related sources and materials that will result in an academic report under the guidance of the instructor.

| Week 5 → 古典文學與當代戲曲：《三個人兒兩盞燈》、《亂紅》 現代文學與當代戲曲：《羅生門》、《金鎖記》 |
| Week 6 → 通俗文化與當代戲曲： 《狐仙故事》、《千年》 跨文化劇場： 從《慾望城國》到《費特兒》 |
