You will undoubtedly want to see Taipei, Taiwan’s largest metropolis, which is just a little over 90 kilometers away.

There are several ways to get there:

● Intercity bus. This is the simplest and cheapest way to travel to other cities in Taiwan, as there is a bus terminal right in front of NTHU.

The buses are operated by many different companies and offer rides to Taipei throughout the day. A one-way student ticket will cost you 105NT.

Train. Trains run to Taipei from the Hsinchu main station.

They will generally cost slightly more than the intercity buses, with the exact price depending on the type of train.

Taking the train is your best option if you want to explore the nearby city of Taoyuan.

HSR. The High-Speed Rail station is located just outside Hsinchu, in Zhubei, and it can be reached by train, bus, or taxi.

The HSR is significantly more expensive than either the intercity bus or the ordinary train service, but it provides the unforgettable experience of breezing past rural and urban sceneries at speeds of up to 300km/h (185mph)!

Perfect for a quick trip to the southern cities of Tainan or Kaohsiung.
